Follow the steps below sequentially to create your TRACES NT access and obtain the required credentials that will enable you to connect your Interu environment to TRACES NT:

Create your EU Login account

To create an EU Login account if you don't already have one. Follow the guidance available on the EU website: How do I create my EU Login account?

For security purposes, setting up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is recommended to connect to the EU portal. Follow the guidance available on the EU website to set up MFA: What second factor can I configure with my account?

We typically recommend using the mobile phone and QR code MFA method, as it's one of the simplest and most common way to set up MFA. Follow the guidance here: How can I add a mobile device to my EU Login account?

To access the TRACES NT system, follow the links below:

There are two different TRACES NT environments used for different purposes. The "Acceptance" environment is a test environment where users can practice and familiarise themselves with the system before using it in a live production setting. "Production", on the other hand, is the live system where real data is submitted and certificates have legal validity. For data protection reasons, there is no automatic data transfer between the different environments. Moreover, access to one of the environments doesn’t give you automatic access to the other.

Interu is currently only connected to the "Acceptance" TRACES NT environment for testing purposes and until such time that the EUDR comes into effect.

Create your Organisation in TRACES NT

To create your organisation if it doesn't already exist in TRACES NT, connect to the TRACES NT system if you aren't already (Acceptance Login, Production Login) and follow the guidance available on the EU website: Creating an Operator in TRACES NT

Your profile status will show "Requested" initially and you will receive an email notification once your profile is validated by the competent authorities. The status will change to "Valid" when approved.

Interu only supports the "Operator" organisation type in TRACES NT for the time being. When you create your Organisation following the guidance above, make sure to select "Operator" for your organisation.

Link your EU Login account to your Organisation in TRACES NT

Next you'll need to link your EU Login account to your Organisation in TRACES NT. Connect to the TRACES NT system if you aren't already (Acceptance Login, Production Login) and follow the EU website guidance: I want my EU Login account to be linked to my operator.

Once you'll have requested authorisation, the administrator of your organisation (i.e. the person who created your organisation in TRACES NT - see ABOVE) will need to validate your user account by following this procedure: User validation workflow.

Request Web Access and your Authentication Key

The final step is to request Web Access to obtain your TRACES NT Authentication Key and be able to connect your Interu instance to the TRACES NT system. To request Web Access, you'll need to email the TRACES NT team at [email protected], asking the below:

I would like to request web access for user [your username] ([your email address]).

Your username appears in the top right Personal Information section of your User Profile in the TRACES NT system (Acceptance User Profile, Production User Profile) and typically looks something like these examples: n00888a15, n0032dqb.

The TRACES NT team will the then activate web access and send you an email confirming this. If you then connect back into TRACES NT User Profile (Acceptance User Profile, Production User Profile), you'll find the Authentication Key in the Web Service Access section (on the right, just below the Personal Information section and your username). Click the eye icon button to reveal.

Please note that a user can only have Web Service access to a single Operator organisation (this means that you cannot have WebServices access to several Operator organisations). However, multiple users can have access to the same Operator organisation for Web Service.
